The CRML PhD Research Fellowship will provide $10,000 to support thesis work in the fellow’s fifth year of doctoral study and is made possible through the generous support of the College of Engineering and the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor. The recipient will be required to work with a CRML-affiliated faculty member during the award period while making good progress towards their thesis.

2020-2021 Fellowship Recipient

We are pleased to announce that Michael Saxon has been awarded the first CRML PhD Research Fellowship. Michael will be entering the Electrical and Computer Engineering PhD program at UC Santa Barbara in fall 2020. He holds an M.S. in Computer Engineering from Arizona State University. Michael’s research interests include natural language understanding, representation learning, semi-supervised learning, assistive technologies, semantic data mining, and AI governance.
